Where we stay

CASERÍA DE MILÁN

Blending history, luxury and cultural heritage, Casería de Milán is a haven away from the bustle of city life. Set against the Sierra Nevada with the heart of Granada only five miles away, it’s the perfect place to inspire creativity and academic study.

HISTORY

Casería de Milán dates back to the 1400’s when Granada was under Moorish rule.  After the fall of Granada in 1492, the house was passed on to the family who still own it today and was used for agricultural purposes ranging from the production of silk to olive oil, and later, in the 20th century, to vineyards.

THE HOUSE

Stunning and stylish, the house spans an area of 350m² and is built around two vine-covered internal courtyards. The accommodation is comprised of nine chic bedrooms, a library, a music room with a grand piano, two sitting rooms, a dining room that seats eighteen, an 18th century chapel, and a large kitchen.

THE GARDENS

Nestled in grounds of 1.5 acres, the gardens at Casería de Milán offer peace and privacy.

ROMANCE GARDEN

Designed over a century ago by the Alhambra’s own conservationists, the Romance Garden plays with colour, water and light in its fountains, walkways and red carp pond.

NORTH GARDEN

Set in half an acre, the North Garden houses the stony remains of the 17th century oil mill, the original mulberry trees used to produce silk, a pond, and a 19th century pavilion.

SOUTH GARDEN

A kitchen garden with stone walkways and vegetable plots, the South Garden sits in the shade of the many 17th century hackberry trees.

THE POOL

Replacing the original Arabic alberca, the pool is now 20x10 metres. Flanked by decking and grass, the pool area sits higher than the house and offers breath-taking views of Granada and the Sierra Nevada. For shade, there is an airy canopy framed by 19th century carved columns.

THE LOCATION

The house is in a residential area of Cájar, the smallest yet wealthiest suburb of Granada, just five miles from the city’s centre. With plenty of local amenities and a regular bus service, the town has everything you’ll need within walking distance of the house.
